Silky	ALL FOR NOTHING Some write about the glory of war How euphoric it can be They charged into the Valley of Death The foe they could not see Then with a roar like thunder They’re torn limb from limb Screaming men and horses It’s all a terrible sin. War shouldn’t be portrayed As a great and gallant deed But told as it really is… The truth, is a must, is a need. For when a war is fought Both soldier and civilian man Are killed for the sake of killing For that is the enemy’s plan. They want to be more powerful To show their strength and might To kill and maim and bomb and tame To put everyone to fright. And when it is all over The widows grieve and cry. While I sit here and ponder Oh why, oh why, oh why?

Silky	As a child I would watch the local blacksmith at his trade. I’m sorry to say the children of today cannot see the sights I saw. Following is my LAMENT To the Village Blacksmith By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Under the spreading Chestnut Tree The smithy stands no more His large and sinewy hands Now sweep rubbish from the floor. The muscles on his brawny arms, Once akin to iron bands, Are now soft and flabby As by a machine he stands. No hammering on the anvil No hot metal being wrought Stands there pushing buttons Without any skill or thought.

Silky	A lot of friends’ asked how many poems have I had published. Well I’ve had over 70 poems published in various UK magazines. The following one won first prize in a competition for a poem which had to include the words ‘slippers and pipe’. MY SLIPPERS AND I I’ve seen crabs with nippers Dolphins with flippers Plus smoked fish that mongers call kippers. I’ve seen ships known as clippers Piloted by skippers All out at sea with day-trippers. Though the best sight of all, that I can recall, Is me - with my pipe and my slippers.

Silky	My wife is semi invalided, so I do the cooking and cleaning in the house. This morning I’ve got the roast in the over and my other jobs done, so while I wait for roast to cook, I thought I’d send one of my published poems to all my friends.
