Our Last Son Was Born At Home

Let me start by saying if any thing could go wrong it did. this was the scarryest day of my life and god and his angels was watching over us.

Our last child was supose to be born on his dad's birthday instead he came a month early.

I started feeling sick around 12 noon on the 9th of august but didn't think any thing of it.

But i new the warning signs. by 5 pm i started feeling all hot and sweaty. so i decided i didn't want to eat. i could belive i was in labor and in about 2 days i was going to the doctors. so i thought i was just getting a cold. i fixed dinner for every one and told hubby and the kids i was going to lay down. i did go to bed and put my feet up.

well i slept throw the night with out any problems. but i still wasn't feeling good and running a fever by this time.

i think it was around 9 or 10 am when i felt my first contractions.  i wasn't to worried because some times it is false alarm. well bye 12 noon i had another one and they was getting stronger. at 1 had another one and by 2 pm i told hubby it was time to call for an ambulance and he did. what i didn't no was we wasn't hooked up to 911 or any of the service.  we lived out in the boonies. you had to call them once you moved in to get hooked up.

so in the mean time i had to go pee so bad i got up to go to the bathroom and i felt some thing wasn't right. when i got into the bathroom i looked down to see the head of the baby. all i remeber was putting my hands beetween my legs and grabing the baby and pulling him up toward me.

i sat on the toilt for a few mintues. when i looked up i seen 5 of the 7 kids standing in the bathroom door. one of the kids runs and tells dad mom had a baby and its a boy. so he calls 911 back only to find out the first emt they sent out was lost. even the rescue unit they send out got lost. the 911 Operator ask if the baby is breathing kids are yelling no. i'm trying to give the baby to our 15 year old daughter knowing i had to clean his nose and mouth out. i couldn't find any thing and our daughter wouldn't take her brother so i turned him upside down and hit him on the bottom that worked. he cryed and was breathing real good. all this time our youngest son is running back and forth from me to dad telling him ever thing and he is telling the 911 operator what is going on.

well after having 3 emts and resue units getting lost one emt shold up. the guy had kids my age and work as a emt for 11 years and never seen a live birth this was his first one. he cut the babys cord and covered the baby up in one of those silver blankets they carry and than we went off to the hospital.

only to get there on a change of shift. a nurse who called in sick that ran the fax machine. they took and called for all these differnt doctors and nurses for the baby asking me tons of questions. all i kept asking was if my baby was ok. finaly some one told me he was fine and he weigh only 3 pounds and 3 1/3 ounce.

the nurse nicked named him fiesty because ever thing the doctors told me and the nurses that he wouldn't do he did. they had him on oxygen and other things for 24 hours and he had some thing to open his lungs up.

he came home august 31st weighing 4 pounds 5 ounces. the only big problem was ear infections when he was a baby.

he also has speech problems but he is doing good now and he is 5 years old and i'll all ways call him my baby.

have a great day bonnie

Wow Bonnie! what a harrowing story. I am so glad you had the piece of mind to do what was necessary... it is incredible, isn't it? almost sounds like a made for TV situation.

WOW Bonnie, when you said he was early...I guess I was thinking a week or two...not a whole month and that small!! I was going to tell you that my son was early too, but only 3 weeks and he weighed 6 pounds...have the doctors told you if his speech problem is due to his hearing or something else??

Fantastic! What an experience, Bonnie! When the baby was born, how old was your next youngest who kept running back and forth telling Dad information while he was on the phone?
